Job Overview

The Director of Alternative Assets will lead the Alternative Assets department within the Operations division of Edward Jones, overseeing the trading, custody, and operational management of alternative investments, including private equity, real estate, and other non-traditional securities. This role serves as a critical liaison between Operations, Compliance, Legal, and Product Development teams to ensure regulatory adherence, mitigate risks, and support the strategic growth of alternative asset offerings. The Director will also work with our Digital teams to ensure the development of digital tools and resources to enhance the firm's capabilities and client experience in the alternative investments space.

What you'll do:
  • Trading and Custody Oversight
    • Manage the operational processes for trading alternative assets, ensuring accurate execution, settlement, and reconciliation.
    • Oversee the custody of alternative assets, including coordination with valuation providers and internal systems for secure record-keeping.
    • Implement and monitor controls to ensure operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Compliance and Legal Liaison
    • Collaborate with Compliance and Legal teams to ensure all alternative asset activities adhere to SEC, FINRA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
    • Act as the primary point of contact within Operations for compliance and legal inquiries related to alternative assets, including audits and regulatory reporting.
    • Develop and maintain policies and procedures specific to alternative investments, addressing risk management, due diligence, and investor protections.
  • Product Development and Strategy
    • Partner with Product Development teams to design and launch new alternative investment products tailored to client demand and market trends.
    • Understand and deliver opportunities to expand the firm's alternative asset offerings.
  • Digital Resources and Innovation
    • Partner with Digital resources on the development and integration of digital tools, platforms, and resources to streamline trading, custody, and client reporting for alternative assets.
    • Collaborate with Digital teams to implement technology solutions that improve operational workflows and enhance client access to alternative investment data.
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing Alternative Assets team within the Operations division.
    • Set departmental goals, allocate resources effectively, and ensure staff are trained on operational processes, compliance requirements, and emerging trends in alternative investments.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Firm-Wide Collaboration
    • Serve as the subject matter expert on alternative assets, providing insights and recommendations to senior Operations leadership and other divisions.
    • Represent Operations in cross-functional meetings and initiatives related to alternative investments, ensuring alignment with the firm's broader objectives.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including regulators, as needed.

Hiring Minimum: $168500
Hiring Maximum: $286900

Skills/Requirements

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • SIE and Series 99 required within 89 days of start date (US); Series 7 required within 12 months of start date (US), Series 24 (U.S) and/or other certifications may be required depending upon specific responsibilities.
  • 10+ years of experience in Financial Services and/or Public Accounting in increasingly responsible positions (preferably operations, trading, custody, or similar experience).
  • Experience must include leading multiple departments and/or functions, leading other leaders, planning, setting strategy and direction, and leading "enterprise-wide" efforts.
    • Three to five years in alternative assets operations experience at a broker-dealer, asset manager, or similar institution.
    • Seven years of leadership experience including significant people responsibilities and delivering results through others
  • Proven track record in overseeing trading and custody processes for alternative investments.
  • Experience working with compliance and legal teams on regulatory matters related to alternative assets.
  • Deep understanding of SEC and FINRA regulations, as well as industry best practices for alternative investments.
  • Strong understanding of alternative asset classes (e.g., private equity, hedge funds, and real estate) and their operational requirements.
  • Proficiency in operational systems, trading platforms, and digital tools.
  • Familiarity with valuation methodologies and risk management practices for alternative investments.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future business needs relative to capacity, talent, industry trends, technology etc, and ensure that the area is being developed to handle both current and future needs. Demonstrated ability to develop a comprehensive business case in alignment with the overall firm strategies and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project leaders and key internal and external stakeholders through complex issues, provide guidance and direction and influence key decisions. Must have experience in a business leader capacity for technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop vision and provide strategic and long term thought leadership at a broad level, as well as a day-to-day strategic approach to issues and challenges.
  • Strategic vision for product implementation and operational innovation.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and mitigate operational risks.
  • Proactive approach to leveraging technology for business growth and efficiency.
