Hartford Hospital
Hartford Hospital is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England. The Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center which provides cuttingedge treatment to its patients. This is made possible by being home to the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most-advanced medical simulation training centers in the world. Hartford Hospital performed the first successful heart transplant in the state, and pioneered the use of robotics in surgery. We maintain the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, and operate the state’s only air ambulance system, LIFE STAR.
Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Role Scope
Hartford HealthCare's Hartford Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a growing team within the Department of Medicine. In partnership with the leadership team the new Advanced Practitioner will be responsible for the advancement of best practice standards, continuous quality improvement and system efficiencies within the Department of Medicine. Responsible for effectively identifying and translating successful quality and safety processes, standards, and mandates into sustainable daily practice and operations. This position requires integration of clinical expertise and quality standards across the care continuum to reduce preventable harm to patients and improve efficiency. This role creates an environment that promotes professional practice, and strives for excellence in all aspects of clinical interdisciplinary care within the Divisions of the Department of Medicine.
- Establishing a structure to mitigate patient safety risks by incorporating best practices, decision support alerts, and safety reporting culture.
- Coordinates and supports the integration of evidence based practice (EBP) within the interdisciplinary team.
- Identifies policies, procedure or pathway structures for practice, standardization and process change.
- Works to implement these changes and monitors outcomes to improve the overall quality and safety of the divisions of the Dept of Medicine.
- Uses event reporting system to help drive process outcomes and structure changes.
- Integrates and disseminates evidence based research into educational forums, quality projects and potential research. Acts as a resource across the care continuum, sharing current literature, research and best practice standards.
- Collaborates with departmental quality leadership (provider and nursing) to review processes and outcomes regularly. Provides a vehicle to share metrics of both process and outcomes with front line staff.
- Develops a prospective structure to ensure adherence to best practice, standard work and continued quality improvement needs of the Department of Medicine.
- Works with system quality and safety leaders to ensure that the Divisions of the Department of Medicine are reflective of best practices through case reviews and event reporting. Collaborates in the identification of gaps in processes and procedures that are inconsistent with current standards and best practices.
- Supports an evolving framework to align safety/quality improvement with the HH Balanced Scorecard.
- Clinical responsibility to include direct patient care
Shift:Full Time (40 hours) Monday through Friday 8am-5pm (occasional clinical coverage off shift may be requested and compensated with shift differentials).

Qualifications
Advanced Practitioner Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
- Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant orNational Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse through AACN or ANCC.
- AGACNP Board Certification as an acute care nurse practitioner and / or critical care AP experience.
- Minimal of 5 years of Acute Care experience.
