The PSN facilitates adherence to national physician and nursing perinatal clinical standards. Provides formal and informal perinatal safety education, facilitates goal setting and ensures data collection is complete. The PSN facilitates interprofessional collaboration in improving patient outcomes. Actively participates in departmental safety decisions, OB safety committee meetings, OB Medical staff meetings and related committees. Proactive partnering with Risk Management regarding perinatal safety issues identified, adverse events, and perinatal safety initiatives. The role of the PSN, Perinatal Services will have a primary focus on activities in the OB ED/Triage, Antepartum, High Risk, Labor and Delivery and Post Partum/Maternity. This position may require flexibility of hours.EDUCATION:Masters Degree in Nursing. ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES For Perinatal PSN: 1) Clinical Judgment a. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge base and expertise in assessment and clinical skills by: • Directing clinical nursing practice in Antepartum, Intrapartum and Postpartum areas. • Implements evidence-based or “best practice” guidelines for specific patient population • Provides consultation with nursing staff on complex patient issues 2) Facilitator of Learning a. Coordination and assessment of educational development and clinical competency of the nursing and medical staff • Ensuring continued competency through educational programs for the newly hired, newly transferred and experienced nursing staff3) Collaboration a. Develops and oversees implementation of departmental specific Policies & Procedures and Power Plans in partnership with nursing leadership, Medical Directors and interprofessional team stakeholders. b. Assists in identifying performance and outcomes measures by collecting, reviewing and analyzing data. After completion of the data collection, implementing changes related to patient care. c.
