For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities. Job Summary: Provides clinical and administrative oversight of Psychiatric Emergency Services including daily operations, policy and procedure development and implementation and personnel supervision. Reports to the Director of Behavioral Health. Specific responsibilities include but are not restricted to: Coordinates Psychiatric Emergency Services Program and daily operations for programs located within the Backus and Windham Hospital Emergency Departments while functioning in a leadership and resource role at all times. Establishes and maintains positive and effective relationships within the Department of Psychiatry, within HHC, and with the community providers for optimal patient care.Develops and implements Psychiatric Emergency Services policies and procedures (in collaboration with both Behavioral Health and Emergency Department leadership. and community facilities). Standardizes practices and procedures between campuses as related to patient assessment and careProvides leadership and clinical supervision for Psychiatric Emergency Services staff at both Backus and Windham campuses, including staffing, scheduling, training, counseling/disciplinary actions and performance appraisals for 8-10 direct reportsQualifications Current CT clinical license - LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Psychologist requiredMaster’s degree in mental health discipline (social work, psychology counseling, marriage & family therapy) requiredAt least 5 years’ psychotherapy experience with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory capacity requiredHighly effective verbal and written communication skillsConsiderable decision-making authority concerning the daily activities of the work unitComputer proficiency We take great care of careers. Job Summary: Supervises program(s) and/or staff to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective service is delivered by the department(s). Provides direct patient care that is specific to each patient's needs, including those needs that are age specific. Coordinates with various departments on campus to ensure that milieu needs are being met - including but not limited to external clinical programs, environmental services, infection control, pharmacy and security.Also, coordinates and oversees services with collaborative providers such as DMHAS and DCF. Models the effective, efficient operation of the Program by scheduling and assigning work, resolving processing problems, collecting data to monitor progress. Continually improves quality and productivity by identifying improvement opportunities, and recommending and implementing changes.Implements and monitors departmental goals and objectives for the work group, by analyzing needs and developing recommendations. Implement individual performance expectations; coaching, developing of direct reports, and providing input to performance of indirect reports.Works across departments and programs to collaborate on like programs to build consistency and efficiencies.Reviews documentation and medical records to ensure proper care is being provided.Qualifications Masters degree in behavioral health related field; Social Work preferred1 year of supervisory experience, clinical awareness and insight required, 5 years of direct clinical practice preferredCurrent licensed LCSW, LPC, LMFT or PsyD in the State of CTStrong communication skills required - both written and verbal, Bilingual language skills preferred.
