Summary of Position
Improves current manufacturing processes to boost productivity, quality, and profitability for the company. Works with production and quality team members to identify and mitigate risks, support and ensure equipment is being operated safely, processes are being run by procedure and the weekly production schedule is met. Develops manufacturing standards. Reports and monitors product area quality, scrap, and rework performance, developing root cause and corrective action when required. Monitors and analyzes manufacturing process yields/cost, identifies issues and develops improvement steps. Plans, organizes, leads and completes engineering projects/capital projects for new processes. Is expected to spend 50% of time on manufacturing floor providing engineering support. Entry level of three level job family.

Engineering support– 80%
Understands processes, equipment functionality and desired outcome.Leads Corrective Actions and proactive process improvements using various six sigma tools such as FMEA, Cause and Effect, Control Charts, etc.Guides reduction efforts for reduction of Mfg. Cost and Cost of poor qualityInterprets drawing and spec requirements and translates into robust manufacturing processesWorks with production teams to ensure correct procedures and work instructions are in place and followedAssesses safety requirements and makes recommendations to integrate improvements to processes and equipment
Reviews process scrap and works with the Quality Department to identify quality issues and develops corrective actions
Reviews status of production schedule with teamsReviews & coordinates MPDs with teamReviews previous shifts production for interruptions. Works with production and support teams to recommend corrective actionsWorks with teams to utilize lean tools: 5s, visual factory concepts in maintaining order, cleanliness, and delivery of downstream valueCreates weekly scrap reports and posts graphsSupports sustaining engineering requirements such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRS) and New Part Requests (NPRs) that require costing and the creation of routersAssists maintenance with technical expertise in timely repair of all equipmentWorks with teams to ensure tooling and repair part Kanban is in place for existing equipment and reviews this when improvements are made or tooling/ parts are obsoletedWorks with support team to ensure all equipment has an approved LOTO Placard, Specific LOTO Procedure, proper ARC flash label, and approved preventive maintenance schedule
Team based problem solving/projects – 20%
Works on cost savings projects, Six Sigma projects and provides support for other team meetings and projects
Researches, designs and draws sketches from initial concepts and ideas for various products and equipmentPresents designs, drawings, cost estimates,and project plans for review; Coordinates part acquisition and machine building, and develops project timeline for installation and run outReviews and coordinates project timeline for completion with support teamsTracks project costs and project improvement savingsProvides periodic reports on the status of project milestones and coordinates adjustments to schedules accordinglyControls expenditures within limitations of project budgetWorks with teams to ensure training takes place for effected team members on process changes, machine improvements or new processes/equipmentEmploys “Value Stream Mapping” and other continuous improvement tools for assigned areas of responsibilityRoot Cause and Corrective Action Process including DOE and FMEAKnowledge of Quality Systems; (i.e., ISO, SPC, Continuous Improvement or Lean Mfg.)Develops test plans for new components or modification of components
Education and/or Experience
Required –
Minimum 2 years of Engineering experience in manufacturing, preferably as a Process EngineerBachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline such as Metallurgy, Chemical, Industrial or Mechanical Related experience in a manufacturing environmentExcellent process trouble shooting skillsProficient in Solid WorksProficient with Microsoft Office, SAP, Mini tabProficient with Continuous Improvement tools
Preferred-
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical EngineeringSix Sigma Training - Certified Green Belt or higher Excellent trouble shooting skills in PLCs, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for production machinery.
