Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to function in the inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) at Boston Children’s Hospital. CCS is a long-standing and nationally-regarded inpatient service in Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the Division of General Pediatrics that serves hospitalized children with medical complexity, who have complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. Common reasons for admission to CCS include infections (aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), chronic condition exacerbations (epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and post-operative recovery following surgery (baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion, etc). This role will provide patient evaluation, assessment and facilitate care for the patients on the CCS service and will implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety in regards to this patient population. The CCS NP/PA will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the entire nursing team to promote optimal clinical care. This NP/PA will act as a clinical resource, facilitating staff educational opportunities. Setting is a fast paced, collaborative environment with many opportunities for learning. Requirements include completion of a master’s degree program in Nursing or Physician Assistant. You will be responsible for taking care of Pre and Post-operative highly acute cardiac patients, along with children who have cardiac medical needs in the intensive care unit. Come join a supportive, multidisciplinary and collaborative team that puts the patient and families first through exceptional care and the latest Pediatric Cardiac Research.This Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in the CICU will be responsible for:Providing care to infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease.Caring for patients with both acute and chronic cardiac disease.Collaborating with the CICU Attending physician, to conduct patient assessment, medical history, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.Participating in CICU medical rounds, including presentation of clinical information, plan development and continued management and modification of the plan for patients throughout the shift.Pre and Post-Op care of critically ill cardiac patients that involves management of ventilators, inotropic support, ECMO, CVVH, emergency situations and sedation titration.Procedures such as Intubation and Central lines, will be taught in both Simulation and during real-time, hands-on events.Extensive Orientation Program with a designated preceptor, simulation and didactic classes along with hands-on experience.
