About The UnitTheCardiovascular Recovery Unit (CVRU)is a fast paced, highly specialized 9-bed critical care unit located right next to the Meijer Heart Center OR’s that is dedicated to providing world class recovery care of patients who have undergone all types of cardiac surgical procedures. Typical surgeries include Coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacement/repair, aortic dissection repair, cardiac ablations, and TAVR’s. Our nurses are fully ICU trained (including on IABP’s, PA catheters, sheaths, ventilators,etc) and provide the complete recovery care needed for these patients until they are hemodynamically stable and ready to transfer to the progressive care unit or to the Cardiothoracic ICU if the critical care needs are anticipated to last greater than 24 hrs. Our nurses have a lot of autonomy and work very closely with the cardiac surgery team to make sure these complex patients receive everything they need to assure optimal outcomes. Job DescriptionAbout the unit5 Center is an 18 bed Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses who are being admitted for their stem cell transplant or readmitted for transplant complications. The unit also consists of patients with oncology diagnosis and those getting specialized immunotherapy treatments. Specializing in transplant care, running, and maintaining central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, managing high acuity patients, and providing oncology education to its patients are a couple of the main responsibilities for our nursing staff. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, allowing the team on 5 Center to build meaningful relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer. About the unit6 Meijer Heart Center (6 Heart) is a 46-bed cardiac and vascular progressive/stepdown unit at the Meijer Heart Center. The primary patient population served include patients with various cardiac and vascular diseases requiring medical, procedural, or surgical interventions. This includes acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, post-percutaneous coronary intervention, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease, aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease and heart rhythm disorders. 6 Heart nurses are skilled in peritoneal dialysis, utilization of Endotool for continuous insulin drip management, and hemodynamic monitoring with arterial lines. 6 Heart is a great unit to grow and develop as a nurse. Our team members gain knowledge and confidence caring for our cardiac and vascular patients. About this unitThe Rehab Unit has 42 beds and is located at Blodgett Hospital. Team members enjoy working on the unit as you can become an expert in so many areas since we care for a wide variety of diagnoses. Some of the patients we care for are stroke, lung and heart transplant, bone marrow transplant patients as well as ortho trauma, limb loss, brain injury and more. We often get to form great relationships with our patients and see them progress in a positive way. We have a very team-oriented floor and environment, which includes strong relationships as an interdisciplinary team. About the unitThe ACE unit/1D (Acute Care of the Elderly) is a 21 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital. Our focus is on medical patients who are over the age of 65. Nurses are often drawn to 1D because of their passion for our geriatric population while becoming competent in a wide variety of diagnosis. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses and a surgical population of obstetrics and gynecology along with gastrointestinal. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, giving the team at 5 North the chance to build relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer and the general medical/surgical population we also care for. Teamwork is an important value on this time and welcome new staff or guest staff warmly to ensure they have a great experience on the unit. About the unit4 North is a 33-bed unit at Butterworth Hospital specializing in orthopedic, trauma and burn care. Our team works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group of professionals including nursing, physicians, APPs, rehab therapists, and care managers to provide high quality, comprehensive care to our patients. Common diagnoses for our patient population include polytrauma, gunshot wounds, falls, motor vehicle accidents, burns, and orthopedic complications as a result of a traumatic injury. About the unit6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap, or Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula. Individuals are drawn to 6 South as it is a unique environment that allows new grad nurses the opportunity to build a strong foundation in time management and develop their critical thinking skills in non-ICU assignments, while also providing an introduction into ICU level of care. We are excited to be offering a new Weekend Only Program for RNs!Eligibility:RNs in inpatient nursing settings with 24/7 scheduling are included.0.9 FTE would work two 12-hour shifts on the weekend and one additional shift during the week.Compensation:RNs will receive an additional $10 per hour plus their base pay.If the RN is a full-time (3) 12s a week RN, the stipend will apply to the two shifts on the weekend and not on the third weekday shift. This $10 per hour will be combined with shift differentials as well as other special codes.Scheduling:RNs will be required to work 48 out of 52 weekends per calendar year. Weekends are defined as Friday and Saturday night for night shift. RNs can request up to 48 hours of PTO on their weekend shifts as well as 48 hours of exchanging a weekend shift for a weekday shift, for a total of 96 hours ‘off’ of the weekendrequirement.Thiswould be given in accordance with unit guidelines with allotted PTO as well as peak times, etc. RNs may request 1 holiday off per calendar year that falls on the weekend. The RN would only work the holiday if it fell on the weekend, they will not be moved off a weekend to work on a holiday.The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The trauma population includes geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma requiring critical care needs, and the critical care adult burn population. The surgical population includes trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery with critical care needs. Nurses in the surgical ICU also provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. Our nurses are competent in the care of patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications and assist with procedures such as bedside tracheostomies and central line placement. With experience and competence surgical ICU nurses can become specialty trained to care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy as well as manage the care of critically ill burn patients. Nurses working in the surgical ICU gain detailed assessment skills, critical thinking behaviors, as well as developing communication skills while working in a dynamic environment. The surgical ICU is a fast-paced unit that relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach with not only provider teams, but ancillary staff to deliver excellent and effective care. RN’s will have the opportunity to provide care to the critical patient on ventilators, provide titration of life-sustaining medication, cardiac and sedation medication. This team stands out as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and urologic care, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains. About the unit Our 20 bed High Risk Postpartum / Women’s Health unit is located on 7 Center at Butterworth hospital. We provide couplet care, where we care for both mom and baby together. Two thirds of our patient population is typically related to diabetes management, complications due to high blood pressure, Covid 19, and more. We care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, and high bilirubin levels. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we have the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. Although this is a specialized unit, there is still a lot to learn due to the variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. As a team member on 2 South, you will see a wide variety of patients. Some of those diagnoses include Orthopedic Trauma, Ortho Oncology, Hip & Spine Fractures, Spine Surgery, where the other population is Progressive Care and Med/Surg overflow. These diagnoses can be anything from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Pneumonia, Sepsis, Congestive Heart Failure, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Drips, Bi pap as well as Post Op heart ablation and pacemaker replacement patients. About the unitThe Neonatal ICU is a 108 bed, Level 4 intensive unit within Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. We care for newborn babies born with various conditions that haven't yet been discharged to go home with their family. As a Level 4 unit, we have the capability to provide surgical repair of complex congenital or acquired conditions. The observation operates as an extension of the emergency department caring for patients who are hospitalized for less than 48 hours. About this Unit6 North is a 38 bed Cardiovascular unit that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, LVAD readmits, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring.Care is provided 24 hours per day 7 days a week.Individuals would want to work on this unit do to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. If they were to transfer to another unit, you would gain time management, proficiency in the management of patient with complex conditions. Some skills you can gain on this unit include, bipap, respiratory management, pulmonary hypertension treatments, management of multiple IV drips, heart failure management, telemetry monitoring. The culture of this unit is teamwork and support. Staff works closely with physicians and other healthcare providers and services to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting. One of the great things about this unit you can't find compared to other units is the strong emphasis on patient education and community resources. About this unit Lake Drive Surgery Center has 8 operating rooms and 28 nursing unit rooms. We care for both pediatric and adult patients undergoing surgery for multiple different specialties including: eyes, ENT, plastics, breast, robotics, general, GYN, uro-GYN, fertility, colo-rectal, urology, sports medicine, total joints, spine/pain, hand, foot/ankle and vascular.
