About the unitThe Adult Nephrology (AN) unit is made up of inpatient dialysis units at both the Butterworth Campus and the Blodgett Campus of Corewell Health. At Butterworth there are 8 patient bays, and Blodgett has 5 patient bays. The AN team focuses on patient care for those who may have either an acute kidney injury or end state renal disease, that require dialysis support during a hospital stay. Dialysis nurses care for patients at both campuses either in the AN unit or at the bedside depending on the acuity level of the patient. Adult Nephrology is a specialized unit, where staff have gained expertise in dialysis and vascular accesses by becoming certified in nephrology nursing or technician care. Experienced healthcare professionals are required to understand and assess patient conditions and reactions to dialysis. Teamwork is a key function within the AN unit and is a well-known culture for this team. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we have the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. Although this is a specialized unit, there is still a lot to learn due to the variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. About the unitOur Ludington Hospital OB unit is an 8 bed unit that had recent renovations done in 2019 to make the layout of the halls more user friendly. We have3 Labor and Delivery Rooms and 5 Postpartum Rooms. We are well known for our excellent Antepartum, Labor and Deliver and Postpartum Care. We have very low turnover and have 13-15 RN's on the team along with 2 resource Nurse Techs. About the unitThe Critical Care Unit (CCU) is an 18-bed mixed ICU managing adult surgical, trauma, neuro, medical, and cardiothoracic/vascular patients. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 and adjusted for acuity throughout the shift. We have residents and attendings present for both shifts to support continued medical care and treatment. We specialize in the treatment of patients with hematological and oncological illness with the additional capacity to care for 24 cardiac telemetry patients.Our full-time RNs are chemo certified and we support part-time and PRN RNs in becoming chemo certified as well. We emphasize education, treatment, and prevention of complications for disorders of the glands, hormones and metabolism. Easy, coordinated access is provided to specialties and services, including heart care, foot and ankle medicine, neurology, eye care, weight management and pain management. We work with patients to explain the importance of exercise, nutrition and blood sugar control for regulating diabetes and improving quality of life.
