About the unitThe ACE unit/1D (Acute Care of the Elderly) is a 21 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital. Our focus is on medical patients who are over the age of 65. Nurses are often drawn to 1D because of their passion for our geriatric population while becoming competent in a wide variety of diagnosis. The observation operates as an extension of the emergency department caring for patients who are hospitalized for less than 48 hours. About this Unit6 North is a 38 bed Cardiovascular unit that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, LVAD readmits, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring.Care is provided 24 hours per day 7 days a week.Individuals would want to work on this unit do to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. If they were to transfer to another unit, you would gain time management, proficiency in the management of patient with complex conditions. Some skills you can gain on this unit include, bipap, respiratory management, pulmonary hypertension treatments, management of multiple IV drips, heart failure management, telemetry monitoring. The culture of this unit is teamwork and support. Staff works closely with physicians and other healthcare providers and services to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting. One of the great things about this unit you can't find compared to other units is the strong emphasis on patient education and community resources. As a team member on 2 South, you will see a wide variety of patients. Some of those diagnoses include Orthopedic Trauma, Ortho Oncology, Hip & Spine Fractures, Spine Surgery, where the other population is Progressive Care and Med/Surg overflow. About the unit 6 and 8 Center at Butterworth Hospital are secure units with 20 private beds on each that specialize in Women and Infant Services, specifically postpartum care of Mother Baby couplets, after labor and delivery. About the unitThe Adult Nephrology (AN) unit is made up of inpatient dialysis units at both the Butterworth Campus and the Blodgett Campus of Corewell Health. At Butterworth there are 8 patient bays, and Blodgett has 5 patient bays. The AN team focuses on patient care for those who may have either an acute kidney injury or end state renal disease, that require dialysis support during a hospital stay. Dialysis nurses care for patients at both campuses either in the AN unit or at the bedside depending on the acuity level of the patient. Adult Nephrology is a specialized unit, where staff have gained expertise in dialysis and vascular accesses by becoming certified in nephrology nursing or technician care. Experienced healthcare professionals are required to understand and assess patient conditions and reactions to dialysis. Teamwork is a key function within the AN unit and is a well-known culture for this team. Job DescriptionAbout the unit5 Center is an 18 bed Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses who are being admitted for their stem cell transplant or readmitted for transplant complications. The unit also consists of patients with oncology diagnosis and those getting specialized immunotherapy treatments. Specializing in transplant care, running, and maintaining central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, managing high acuity patients, and providing oncology education to its patients are a couple of the main responsibilities for our nursing staff. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, allowing the team on 5 Center to build meaningful relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional and the team is proud to assist one another in tasks that allow all shifts to run smoothly. 5 Center welcomes candidates who have a passion for oncology/stem cell therapy. About the unit6 Meijer Heart Center (6 Heart) is a 46-bed cardiac and vascular progressive/stepdown unit at the Meijer Heart Center. The primary patient population served include patients with various cardiac and vascular diseases requiring medical, procedural, or surgical interventions. This includes acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, post-percutaneous coronary intervention, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease, aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease and heart rhythm disorders. 6 Heart nurses are skilled in peritoneal dialysis, utilization of Endotool for continuous insulin drip management, and hemodynamic monitoring with arterial lines. 6 Heart is a great unit to grow and develop as a nurse. Our team members gain knowledge and confidence caring for our cardiac and vascular patients. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. About the unit 4 Center OB Special Care is a specialty within the world of Obstetrics care. 4 Center providers expert individualized care for patients with high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy- related conditions, as well as postpartum care. Our most common diagnosis includes premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor or contractions, preeclampsia/hypertension, cervical shortening, vaginal bleeding, hyperemesis, and diabetes care. About the unit4 North is a 33-bed unit at Butterworth Hospital specializing in orthopedic, trauma and burn care. Our team works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group of professionals including nursing, physicians, APPs, rehab therapists, and care managers to provide high quality, comprehensive care to our patients. About the unit Our 20 bed High Risk Postpartum / Women’s Health unit is located on 7 Center at Butterworth hospital. We provide couplet care, where we care for both mom and baby together. Two thirds of our patient population is typically related to diabetes management, complications due to high blood pressure, Covid 19, and more. We care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, and high bilirubin levels. About the unit5 South is a 30 bed Oncology unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses and a surgical population of head and neck cancers. Running central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, and providing oncology education to its patients. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, giving the team at 5 South the chance to build relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer.
