About this unitThe Rehab Unit has 42 beds and is located at Blodgett Hospital. Team members enjoy working on the unit as you can become an expert in so many areas since we care for a wide variety of diagnoses. Some of the patients we care for are stroke, lung and heart transplant, bone marrow transplant patients as well as ortho trauma, limb loss, brain injury and more. We often get to form great relationships with our patients and see them progress in a positive way. We have a very team-oriented floor and environment, which includes strong relationships as an interdisciplinary team. About the unit7 North is a 39-bed Medical Surgical GI/GU unit located in Butterworth Hospital. This unit is known for its outstanding teamwork and welcoming atmosphere! At 7 North opportunities to learn and grow never stop due to the variety in patient population, this unit is considered a medical/surgical unit but specializes in the care of urology and surgical oncology post-operative patients as well as those with gastrointestinal diagnoses. This team stands out as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and urologic care, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. This team of nurses has worked to develop a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning. About the unit 4 Center OB Special Care is a specialty within the world of Obstetrics care. 4 Center providers expert individualized care for patients with high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy- related conditions, as well as postpartum care. Our most common diagnosis includes premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor or contractions, preeclampsia/hypertension, cervical shortening, vaginal bleeding, hyperemesis, and diabetes care. About the unit Our 20 bed High Risk Postpartum / Women’s Health unit is located on 7 Center at Butterworth hospital. We provide couplet care, where we care for both mom and baby together. Two thirds of our patient population is typically related to diabetes management, complications due to high blood pressure, Covid 19, and more. We care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, and high bilirubin levels. About the unit5 South is a 30 bed Oncology unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses and a surgical population of head and neck cancers. Running central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, and providing oncology education to its patients. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, giving the team at 5 South the chance to build relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer. This unit’s primary specialty is psychiatric and substance abuse disorder patients. The average length of stay is 7-10 days. The patient population will include depression, anxiety related disorders, substance abuse, and other mental health related behavioral issues. RNs will care for patients requiring refocusing and regaining mental health, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, and detoxification. We specialize in the treatment of patients with hematological and oncological illness with the additional capacity to care for 24 cardiac telemetry patients.Our full-time RNs are chemo certified and we support part-time and PRN RNs in becoming chemo certified as well. Working with oncology patients will provide you with an incredible amount of learning opportunities including working with chemotherapy, learning about radiation therapy, end of life care, and assisting with some unique bedside procedures to name a few.Our care traverses the initial diagnosis through cure or palliation. About the unit7MHC is a 46-bed unit that cares for cardio-thoracic patients after surgery. We specialize in both cardiac, pulmonary and transplant care. Our primary patient populations are post-operative coronary artery bypass (CABG), cardiac valve surgeries, lung surgeries, heart, and lung transplant, and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump). We admit post-surgical patients’ day of surgery, after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs. If a patient needs intensive care, they are transferred to CTCC and return to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical, physical, and emotional support.This is an exciting unit to work with each shift providing clinically complex care for patients with high acuity needs such as drains, wounds, high risk medications and monitoring. Strong clinical skills in cardiac, pulmonary, and post-surgical assessment are necessary.
