The patient population on 4 West provides its employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of different conditions consisting of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, kidney failure, and hyperglycemia. About this unitThe Rehab Unit has 42 beds and is located at Blodgett Hospital. Team members enjoy working on the unit as you can become an expert in so many areas since we care for a wide variety of diagnoses. Some of the patients we care for are stroke, lung and heart transplant, bone marrow transplant patients as well as ortho trauma, limb loss, brain injury and more. About the Unit The Grand Rapids Hospitals CT team supports Butterworth Hospital, Blodgett Hospital and Lemmen Holton Cancer Center. This team of over 50 CT techs staffs both hospitals 24/7/365 and Lemmen Holton during weekday business hours. Part- and full-time team members are hired for a specific location and do not flex aside from call coverage. Resource team members are hired to flex across all 3 locations as available shifts allow. There are 9 scanners between those 3 locations- most are Siemens with a couple GE machines across those sites.The Butterworth team specializes in imaging stroke patients, traumas as the level 1 trauma center, cardiac imaging and CT-guided biopsies. About the unitGerber Med Surg is 13 beds. 4 are observation and 9 are inpatient. The unit is currently undergoing a refresh, new paint, flooring, and artwork in the halls and patient rooms, in addition to a new nurses station, breakroom and staff bathroom. Gerber Med Surg is home to our largest patient population and is a cornerstone of the hospital. We offer telemedicine services in pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, and wound. Coming soon to Gerber are telemedicine palliative care services. About the unitThe Neonatal ICU is a Critical Care Unit within Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, caring for newborn babies born with various conditions that haven't yet been discharged to go home with their family. We build great relationships with the parents of our NICU babies since they are so frequently here at the bedside. We are the largest NICU in Michigan and care for babies from 37 counties. About the Unit:TheCardiovascular Recovery Unit (CVRU)is a fast paced, highly specialized 9-bed critical care unit located right next to the Meijer Heart Center OR’s that is dedicated to providing world class recovery care of patients who have undergone all types of cardiac surgical procedures. Typical surgeries include Coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacement/repair, aortic dissection repair, cardiac ablations, and TAVR’s. Our nurses are fully ICU trained (including on IABP’s, PA catheters, sheaths, ventilators,etc) and provide the complete recovery care needed for these patients until they are hemodynamically stable and ready to transfer to the progressive care unit or to the Cardiothoracic ICU if the critical care needs are anticipated to last greater than 24 hrs. Our nurses have a lot of autonomy and work very closely with the cardiac surgery team to make sure these complex patients receive everything they need to assure optimal outcomes. About the unit6 Meijer Heart Center (6 Heart) is a 46-bed cardiac and vascular progressive/stepdown unit at the Meijer Heart Center. The primary patient population served include patients with various cardiac and vascular diseases requiring medical, procedural, or surgical interventions. This includes acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, post-percutaneous coronary intervention, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease, aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease and heart rhythmdisorders. 6 Heart nurses are skilled in peritoneal dialysis, utilization of Endotool for continuous insulin drip management, and hemodynamic monitoring with arterial lines. 6 Heart is a great unit to grow and develop as a nurse. About the unit3E/G is a unique team structure at Blodgett Hospital composed of two separate units but one team. 3E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit with some Medical Orthopedic patients while 3G is a 22 bed Orthopedic unit primarily serving Total Joint Replacement Patients. We specialize in both cardiac, pulmonary and transplant care.Our primary patient populations are post-operative coronary artery bypass (CABG), cardiac valve surgeries, lung surgeries, heart and lung transplant, and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump).We admit post-surgical patients day of surgery, after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs. If a patient needs intensive care, they are transferred to CTCC and return back to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical, physical and emotional support.Strong clinical skills in cardiac, pulmonary and post-surgical assessment are necessary. Examples are rhythm assessment, identification of abnormalities with cardiac and pulmonary auscultation and surgical site management.
