The Diesel and CNG Tractor Mechanic is responsible for repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting for all fleet equipment including tractor Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and diesel engines (fuel systems and electrical systems), 53' trailers, pneumatic brakes systems, engine diagnostics, and CNG/diesel engine drive trains. The Professional Maintenance Specialist (PMS) will be responsible for managing designated manufacturing equipment and technology in a fast paced, high volume, unionized, manufacturing environment. The selected candidate will coordinate safety, quality, delivery, cost and morale initiatives related to their designated equipment and/or technology. The PMS will ensure maintenance procedures and processes are well defined, understood and practiced by the skilled trades. The SBU Temporary Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal of parts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections and other components. Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Most advanced work may include fabricating experimental parts and test fixtures and working from blueprints/drawings. Other responsibilities include driving test vehicles at various speeds on varying road conditions. Weekend overtime is required for this position.
