Job DescriptionAbout the unit5 Center is an 18 bed Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses who are being admitted for their stem cell transplant or readmitted for transplant complications. The unit also consists of patients with oncology diagnosis and those getting specialized immunotherapy treatments. Specializing in transplant care, running, and maintaining central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, managing high acuity patients, and providing oncology education to its patients are a couple of the main responsibilities for our nursing staff. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, allowing the team on 5 Center to build meaningful relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional and the team is proud to assist one another in tasks that allow all shifts to run smoothly. 5 Center welcomes candidates who have a passion for oncology/stem cell therapy. About the unit6 Meijer Heart Center (6 Heart) is a 46-bed cardiac and vascular progressive/stepdown unit at the Meijer Heart Center. The primary patient population served include patients with various cardiac and vascular diseases requiring medical, procedural, or surgical interventions. This includes acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, post-percutaneous coronary intervention, peripheral artery disease, renal artery disease, aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease and heart rhythm disorders. 6 Heart nurses are skilled in peritoneal dialysis, utilization of Endotool for continuous insulin drip management, and hemodynamic monitoring with arterial lines. 6 Heart is a great unit to grow and develop as a nurse. About this unitThe Rehab Unit has 42 beds and is located at Blodgett Hospital. Team members enjoy working on the unit as you can become an expert in so many areas since we care for a wide variety of diagnoses. Some of the patients we care for are stroke, lung and heart transplant, bone marrow transplant patients as well as ortho trauma, limb loss, brain injury and more. We often get to form great relationships with our patients and see them progress in a positive way. We have a very team-oriented floor and environment, which includes strong relationships as an interdisciplinary team. About the unitThe ACE unit/1D (Acute Care of the Elderly) is a 21 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital. Our focus is on medical patients who are over the age of 65. Nurses are often drawn to 1D because of their passion for our geriatric population while becoming competent in a wide variety of diagnosis. Since we are a Med/Surg unit, we care for patients with a vast array of diagnosis including Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, Septic Shock, Acute Kidney Injuries, Delirium and many more. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. About the unit5 North is a 30 bed Medical Oncology unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses and a surgical population of obstetrics and gynecology along with gastrointestinal. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, giving the team at 5 North the chance to build relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer and the general medical/surgical population we also care for. Teamwork is an important value on this time and welcome new staff or guest staff warmly to ensure they have a great experience on the unit. About the unit 4 Center OB Special Care is a specialty within the world of Obstetrics care. 4 Center providers expert individualized care for patients with high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy- related conditions, as well as postpartum care. Our most common diagnosis includes premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor or contractions, preeclampsia/hypertension, cervical shortening, vaginal bleeding, hyperemesis, and diabetes care. About the unit4 North is a 33-bed unit at Butterworth Hospital specializing in orthopedic, trauma and burn care. Our team works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group of professionals including nursing, physicians, APPs, rehab therapists, and care managers to provide high quality, comprehensive care to our patients. We are excited to be offering a new Weekend Only Program for RNs!Eligibility:RNs in inpatient nursing settings with 24/7 scheduling are included.0.9 FTE would work two 12-hour shifts on the weekend and one additional shift during the week.Compensation:RNs will receive an additional $10 per hour plus their base pay.If the RN is a full-time (3) 12s a week RN, the stipend will apply to the two shifts on the weekend and not on the third weekday shift. This $10 per hour will be combined with shift differentials as well as other special codes.Scheduling:RNs will be required to work 48 out of 52 weekends per calendar year. Weekends are defined as Friday and Saturday night for night shift. RNs can request up to 48 hours of PTO on their weekend shifts as well as 48 hours of exchanging a weekend shift for a weekday shift, for a total of 96 hours ‘off’ of the weekendrequirement.Thiswould be given in accordance with unit guidelines with allotted PTO as well as peak times, etc. RNs may request 1 holiday off per calendar year that falls on the weekend. The RN would only work the holiday if it fell on the weekend, they will not be moved off a weekend to work on a holiday.The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The trauma population includes geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma requiring critical care needs, and the critical care adult burn population. The surgical population includes trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery with critical care needs. Nurses in the surgical ICU also provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. Our nurses are competent in the care of patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications and assist with procedures such as bedside tracheostomies and central line placement. With experience and competence surgical ICU nurses can become specialty trained to care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy as well as manage the care of critically ill burn patients. Nurses working in the surgical ICU gain detailed assessment skills, critical thinking behaviors, as well as developing communication skills while working in a dynamic environment. The surgical ICU is a fast-paced unit that relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach with not only provider teams, but ancillary staff to deliver excellent and effective care. RN’s will have the opportunity to provide care to the critical patient on ventilators, provide titration of life-sustaining medication, cardiac and sedation medication. About the UnitThe Medical Critical Care (MCC) is a 24-bed unit that cares for a wide variety of critically ill patients. The next year for MCC is an exciting time as the unit will be going through a major expansion. The growth of West Michigan has resulted in the increased need for hospitals beds and specifically intensive care beds. A new 24-bed critical care unit is currently being built within the existing Meijer Heart Center. The 8th floor of the Meijer Heart Center once housed Ambulatory offices and conference rooms. This space will now be completely renovated to become the new MCC. The new unit will be finalized at the beginning of 2023. At 7 North opportunities to learn and grow never stop due to the variety in patient population, this unit is considered a medical/surgical unit but specializes in the care of urology and surgical oncology post-operative patients as well as those with gastrointestinal diagnoses. About the unit Our 20 bed High Risk Postpartum / Women’s Health unit is located on 7 Center at Butterworth hospital. We provide couplet care, where we care for both mom and baby together. Two thirds of our patient population is typically related to diabetes management, complications due to high blood pressure, Covid 19, and more. We care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, and high bilirubin levels. As a team member on 2 South, you will see a wide variety of patients. About the unit4 West is a 32 bed medical surgical unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population on 4 West provides its employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of different conditions consisting of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, kidney failure, and hyperglycemia. In Butterworth hospital it is common to see high acuity patients which provides the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as patient assessments, IV/urinary catheter/NG tube placement, rapid decline in patient condition, Endotool, etc. 4 West is a well-established team that works collaboratively and functions exceptionally well. This collaboration is not only experienced between RNs or technicians but also the interdisciplinary team on the unit which includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.
