About the unitBig Rapids Campus has a 22 bed medical surgical unit and a 4 bed critical care unit. This campus is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population in Big Rapids is very diverse, it consists of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, COPD, cellulitis, kidney failure, and bowel obstructions. These diagnoses provide the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as IV placement, chest tubes and NG placement/management. In our critical care unit it is common to see high acuity patients with sepsis, hyperglycemia and respiratory failure whose plan of care would include managing medication drips (insulin, vasopressors, etc.) and the utilization of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. Big Rapids has a well-established team that works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team that includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, nurse techs, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to provide quality care for our patients. As a member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team, the primary focus of the Music Therapist is to provide music therapy services to the hospice patients and their families in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care. The music therapist assesses patients and families, devises a care plan, and implements the care plan. Additionally, the music therapist consults with others on referrals to music therapy and on the therapeutic uses of music. About the unitThe emergency department at Ludington Hospital features sixteen state-of-the-art treatment areas, including two trauma rooms. We are able to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients and emergency procedures.
