This unit schedules daily short stays for chemotherapy treatment, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies and cardiac catheterization. About the unitThe Medical Observation Unit consists of 54 beds. Patients are categorized as Observation secondary to insurance requirements. This is a medical unit. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department with mental status changes, long term placement needs, pain, cardiac, TIA, r/o CVA, UTI, pneumonia, geriatric, and behavioral issues. If patients meet criteria for higher level of care they will be transferred to the assigned progressive or inpatient unit. About the unit3CN/5CN Intermediate Surgical Unit offers a dynamic patient care experience. 3 CN is a ten-bed unit thatspecializes in general surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients. About this unitWe are a 64 bed Inpatient Rehab Unit that sees a variety of patients who need to work on both their functional and medical problems. We treat ortho patients recovering from hip fractures, complex knee replacement, back surgery with neurologic involvement, multi-trauma, and other orthopedic issues. We also see neurology patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord tumors, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Parkinson’s, MS, and any cancer diagnosis with functional decline. We also have patients come to our unit who had amputations and other complex medical/surgical issues with functional decline. Patients participate in 15 hours of therapy across the 7-day week. Nursing continues the interventions practiced by the patients in therapy sessions, to continue safe mobility. For many of our patients, Rehab is the key to getting back home with their families. About this unit4 Center is a 22-bed surgical unit which specializes in patients with acute and chronic kidney and liver disease. We care for patients going for kidney and liver transplants and those undergoing nephrectomy for the purpose of donating. We admit our transplant patients prior to surgery and care for them post operatively after they are downgraded from ICU. Patient education is a large part of what we do, and we work closely with our Transplant Medical Team. We are very proud to be #1 in the nation for kidney transplant survival at one year after transplant. Our nurses also perform peritoneal dialysis. We do not perform hemodialysis. Clinical education to students.Evaluate, consult and implement an appropriate treatment plan for each patient. Accurately documents treatments and charges for self and assigned support staff.Serve as a resource of information and treatment skill for less knowledgeable staff, provide student supervision.Manage staff and department resources wisely. Supervise assigned support staff.Collaborate with intra and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care. Collaborates with patient, family, significant other in treatment and in discharge planning.Provide documentation to the physicians regarding the patient initially, at discharge, and at appropriate intervals.
