Apply Today!Job Summary and QualificationsThe Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.What you will do in this role:You will perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. You will conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.You will administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.You will assist with placement of artificial airways. You will initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.You will monitor patient for therapeutic response. You will notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.You will assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.You will respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.Respiratory Therapy is best described as the assessment and treatment of patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. Today’s Respiratory Therapists have demanding responsibilities related to patient care and serve as vital members of the healthcare team.You must have a broad knowledge of the pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the complex procedures required to properly diagnose and treat patients, from the very young to the very old.Under the general supervision of the RT Supervisor or Team Leader, you will perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physicianYour duties will include medical gas administration, aerosol therapy, obtaining and analyzing blood specimens, performing patient testing, operating and maintaining various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment, providing mechanical ventilation, maintaining artificial airways, assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, providing patient education, monitoring equipment and patient response to therapy Your additional responsibilities will include completing documentation of in-patient and departmental records, cleaning equipment, and maintaining safety and infection control practices.What Qualifications You Will Need:Associates or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program requiredMust hold a current Respiratory Therapist license from the State Board for Respiratory CareNBRC RRTBasic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start dateAmerican Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS preferred upon hireACLS and NRP required within 6 months of hireOne year of recent clinical experience preferredCenterpoint Medical Center is a 285+ bed hospital featuring state-of-the-art equipment and technology.
