The SBH team consists of a psychiatrist, virtual nurse practitioners, hospitalists, dieticians, pastoral care, discharge planner, social worker, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists. Most of our patients have dementia with behavioral disturbances, but we also treat patients with depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric disorders. Our unit accepts patients over the age of 62, but some patients may be slightly younger but “geriatric-like”. The unit is a “well unit” which means that our patients must be be medically stable to remain on the unit. If patients develop an infectious disease or become medically unstable, then they are transferred off the unit to a medical floor. The patients are expected to participate in group therapy daily led by a certified occupational therapist or technician, and some patients receive individual counseling based on need.Some of the procedures performed on the unit include but is not limited to: medication administration, foley placement and care, IV placement and management, wound care, assistance with ADL’s and functional mobility. Patients are generally on the unit an average of 11 days; therefore, there is an opportunity to bond and get to know patients very well. Our team is like family, and the culture is positive. The SBH team consists of a psychiatrist, virtual nurse practitioners, hospitalists, dieticians, pastoral care, discharge planner, social worker, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists. We care for ventilated patients that may have respiratory failure, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, CHF exacerbation or a myriad of other illnesses that require respiratory support. We offer patients that are extremely ill and on pressors a specialized dialysis treatment called SLED (sustained low-efficiency dialysis) which is a 1:1 nurse to patient ratio. We take care of cardiac arrest patients, and we are the Code Blue and Rapid Response Team of the hospital.Some of the many procedures and skills we see daily/weekly are: NGT placement, foley placement, and PIV placement. We assist physicians with Central Line placement, Arterial Line placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Chest Tube placement, Temporary Pacemaker placement, bedside Bronchoscopy, and bedside GI procedures.Our team is like family, and we work hard together. We celebrate together, pray together and sometimes we mourn together. But we do all things together as a team. We believe our faith is the center of our work and safe patient care with excellence and compassion is what we strive for.Intermediate Care Unit Overview:The Intermediate Care Unit at Mercy Ardmore is a critical care unit that manages the care of critically ill patients that are less acute than the ICU patients. We care for patients that are recovering from or still suffering from respiratory failure, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, CHF exacerbation or a myriad of other illnesses that require respiratory support. We use cardiac drips like Cardizem and amiodarone drips. We are the Code Blue and Rapid Response Team of the hospital.Some of the many procedures and skills we see daily/weekly are: NGT placement, foley placement, and PIV placement. We assist physicians with Central Line placement, Arterial Line placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Chest Tube placement, Temporary Pacemaker placement, bedside Bronchoscopy, and bedside GI procedures.Our team is like family, and we work hard together.
