All nurses working in W&C Services are cross-trained to at least 2 clinical care departments and float within the unit. W&C Departments are considered closed units, so floating to departments outside of W&C is not required. All nurses are required to take call shifts.Labor & Birth provide care for women ranging from low-risk/low-intervention deliveries to high risk antenatal care and delivery. The L&B/High Risk units are staffed around the clock, 24/7 with in-house Board-Certified OB Hospitalists, OB Anesthesia and highly skilled nursing and surgical staff with full coverage Maternal Fetal Medicine availability. Typical nurse patient ratios are 1:2 in these units with high risk ratios of 1:1 based on acuity. Labor RNs must have Intermediate Fetal Heart Rate training and STABLE. National Certification in Obstetric Care is encouraged and preferred.
