Advanced Practitioner Role ScopeWe are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant nocturnist to care for patients in the Medical ICU (MICU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be an integral member of the care delivery team, including Hospitalist Physicians and APPs as well as Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) Physicians, Nursing, and Respiratory Therapy. The APP will be the overnight provider caring for the MICU patients directly ensuring the appropriate patient care, documentation, and continue progression of care with reviewing and interpreting lab and imaging studies, and bedside rounding with RNs and RTs, and performing ICU procedures including central lines and arterial lines and collaborating with the on-call intensivist and hospitalist. The APP will partner with the Hospitalist Nocturnist to take new ICU admissions and can facilitate early consultations with PCCM, as well as coordinating patient transfers to higher level of care facilities as needed. The APP will also perform night bedside rounds on PCU patients, and partner with Nursing Supervisor to evaluate patients who may be eligible to stepdown out of PCU level of care. Additionally, the APP will respond to all Rapid Response and CardioPulmonary Response codes for all inpatients. Schedule:. This provider will average 3 12 hour 7p-7a day shifts per week (36 hours). Provider should anticipate working 1 weekend a month on average. Answer requests from pharmacies for prescription refills per office protocol. Prepare specimens and paperwork to submit to reference lab for testing as directed my physician or midlevel. Instruct patients on how to properly collect sterile urine specimens. On a monthly basis check all medications (including samples) and appropriately dispose of expired medications. Obtain precertifications for tests, procedures, treatments, medications, and hospitalizations as needed. Schedule and arrange referrals and outside testing for patients as directed by physician. Maintain work area in a neat and organized manner. Maintain appropriate documentation of compliance with CLIA regulations.
