We are looking for a dedicated Medical Technologist like you to be a part of our team.Job Summary and QualificationsThe Medical Technologist has the appropriate educational background to perform laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols that require the broad exercise of independent judgement and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. The MT also maintains equipment and records, performs quality assurance activities related to test performance; and functions as a supervisor, educator, manager, or researcher within a medical laboratory setting. The MT performs a broad range of laboratory procedures or concentrates their activities in one area such blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology. The MT understands the roles and relationships of practitioners in the health-related fields. The MT also integrates all aspects of the technician’s role. The MT evaluates and solves problems related to the collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis. The MT performs waived, moderate, and high complexity laboratory procedures, recognizes deviation from expected result; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles, analyzes quality control data, make judgements concerning the result and take appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision. The MT answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and factors that influence test results. The MT participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, space, method comparison, cost analysis, and establishment of reference interval; writes and revises technical procedures. The MT incorporates principle of educational methodology in the instruction of new employees and students in the laboratory’s inservice/continuing education program. The MT gives direction and guidance to Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) and supports personnel. The MT develops special projects and demonstrates laboratory technical skills to new employees and students.What you will do in this role:Critically review results and assures that critical values are reported to appropriate personnelPerforms testing correctly and timely. And recognizes the appropriate reference ranges and Critical (panic) values when reporting patient’s testing results. Repeats tests when neededReviews QC assures corrective action is performed, appropriate, and documentedDevelops working knowledge of all areas of the laboratory and documents scheduled and unscheduled instrument maintenanceTroubleshoots laboratory equipment assuring minimum downtimeRefers specimens to the reference lab(s) in the proper mannerEvaluates new methods and procedures and follows established protocol for their implementationMonitors stock inventories and replenishes appropriatelyProvides budget input, adheres to accrediting agency guidelines, helps customers and uses Laboratory Information System (LIS) appropriatelyCompletes test authorizations (see page 8 for details)Demonstrates the ability to set appropriate priorities and reports results within designated time frames.Participates in the Medicare Laboratory Billing Compliance planWhat qualifications you will need: Bachelors DegreePreferred ASCP Preferred one year clinical experience microCorpus Christi Medical Center is a 630+ bed healthcare system of hospitals in Corpus Christi and the surrounding Coastal Bend community.
