DescriptionSummary: The Acute Trauma Medical Surgical unit is a 40-bed mixed unit on the 5th floor. This unit cares for the medical monitored patients as well as traumatic injuries transferred from the ICU and Emergency Department.It also specializes in post-operative care of patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and urologic procedures. The unit is known for being "The Center of Excellence" for the care of bariatric surgery patients. For the 40-bed unit, there is usually 3-4 PCTs scheduled each shift for nursing support. DescriptionSummary: The IMC Step-Down/Cardiac Unit is a 36-private bed unit that specializes in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients and families that are post CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis/history with co-morbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips. On our unit, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management.
