Transfers prescriptions to and from other pharmacies following state and federal law requirements. Compounds prescription medications when necessary and assures appropriate documentation is completed. Ensures Medication Guides, CMS notices and other documents required by law are distributed with prescriptions. Monitors medication therapy and makes recommendations to therapy when appropriate.Counsels as required by all state and federal laws and provides information on drugs, their pharmacological action, dosage, contraindications, reactions, etc. to physicians, nurses, patients, and other interested parties. Identifies and completes medication therapy management opportunities and recommends, administers, and educates on immunizations as appropriate. Stays current with professional literature and maintains competence required for position.Oversee technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies. Able to perform all duties of a pharmacy technician. Assist with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students.Maintain appropriate inventory of medications and supplies. Ensure inventory is rotated, expired stock is appropriately disposed of and orders are placed in a timely manner.Provide support and serve as a resource for nurses, physicians and other health care providers medication information and education.Collaborate with leadership to ensure policies and procedures are reviewed and makes recommendations for improvement.Actively assesses the security of medication areas and the compliance of personnel with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws including record keeping.
