This person will be a part of and lead a team of engineers to plan, manage, and provide engineering solutions to improve manufacturing KPI’s, as well as managing process changes. Primarily, this person will instill a culture of continuous improvement, creating a collaborative team in a manufacturing organization who takes pride in the technical department of engineering services. Reporting to a Senior Manager of Engineering Services, the person in this role will support the Engineering Services department's objective and work in partnership with maintenance, production, and other departments.The successful candidate must exhibit Toyota Way leadership values; (Respect for People and Continuous Improvement Activity). The candidate must also develop and execute schedule for said priorities and report their status to the senior management group.What you’ll be doing Support the existing managers with the ongoing establishment of the engineering services department by recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new members.Guide engineers to achieve Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost and People Development KPIs.Train, promote, teach, and further develop Toyota systems in a startup environment.Become knowledgeable and learn quickly about the people, process, and product to provide technical expertise and direction to the team when needed.Spend a considerable amount of time on the production floor with equipment and people. This will result in a direct result of developing and coaching each team member’s technical capability and problem-solving methodology.Interact within the manufacturing department and other related groups to confirm that performance and expectations are being met.Expected to have strong focus on people development – providing leadership teaching, coaching and mentorship to all team members.Meet engineering services and related production and company KPIs by driving action through pro-active problem solving, visualizing department status, and providing tangible, continual improvements.What you bring Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or similar with 5+ years of experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment, or 10+ years of equivalent professional experience in manufacturing and engineering.Engineering experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Experience in a management role with responsibility for direct reports, or similar experience as a people leader with formal or informal leadership responsibilities.Experience troubleshooting and problem-solving technical issues within a manufacturing environment, (in areas such as safety, quality, equipment, process, productivity, and cost).Project management experience, such as managing a capital project larger than $1M, pre-production project work, or related experience.Working knowledge of mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failure (MTBF).Ability to support a 24/7/365 manufacturing operation, including morning/evening overtime, weekend work, and off shift technical support with other managers, including overtime up to 25% or higher during peak times.Ability to work Summer and Winter shutdown and holidays as needed, including business travel, both domestic and international, up to 20%.Added bonus if you haveExperience with new equipment technology related to start-up, major model change and product launches in a fast pace highly automated manufacturing environment.Completion of A3, Toyota Business Practice, or other equivalent documented problem-solving activity.Knowledge of battery manufacturing (cell and/or module).Skills related to industrial process engineering (Controls, IoT, Process Monitoring, Andon utilization, data collection and storage, analytics).What we’ll bringDuring your interview process, our team can fill you in on all the details of our industry-leading benefits and career development opportunities.
