Lombardi was initially designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 1974 and achieved NCI comprehensive status in 1990. The mission of Lombardi is to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative basic science, clinical research, patient care, community outreach, and the training of cancer specialists of the future.The patient population of 2 Bles includes all hematologic diseases and cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, ITP, sickle cell anemia), autologous PBSC transplant patients, oncologic solid tumor, and a wide range of medical diagnoses. General Summary of PositionUnit Highlights The MedStar Georgetown Psychiatric Partial Hospital Program (PPHP) is an intensive treatment program for people with an acute psychiatric illness. It supplements, but does not replace, the patient’s own psychiatrist and/or therapist. Treatment is provided in collaboration with these clinicians. The program can be used as a transition for patients being discharged from an inpatient hospitalization or as an intervention for patients who require more intensive care than they can receive in the outpatient setting.Staff consists of an attending psychiatrist, three masters’ prepared registered nurses, a masters’ prepared art therapist/case manager, a master’s prepared psychiatric occupational therapist and an administrative assistant. As MedStar Georgetown is an academic teaching facility, there are also psychiatric residents, neurology residents, medical students, student art therapists and student occupational therapists working in the PPHP. The attending psychiatrist will meet individually with each patient two to three times per week to evaluate medications and the progress being achieved. Each patient will be assigned a primary nurse with whom they can meet to discuss individual issues. Family meetings are scheduled during the program when appropriate. A personalized interdisciplinary treatment plan is provided to help patients gain control over their symptoms and develop more effective coping skills. The staff meets three times a week to develop the treatment plans for each patient, evaluate the efficacy of the treatment, and to make additional recommendations upon completion of the treatment. General Summary of PositionUnit Highlights MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Spine Surgery, Neuro Medical & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (C5-3) is a recently renovated, all private room, 14-bed adult Neuro Medical and Spine Surgery Unit. C5-3 nurses work collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide high-quality, patient-centered, specialty care. Two of C5-3’s 14 beds are specialized Epilepsy Monitoring beds, featuring state-of-the-art Natus monitoring to care for patients with epilepsy or seizure-like activity. These patients are on 24hr video EEG monitoring and may be candidates for Ictal-SPECT scans to determine the area of the brain that is generating their seizures.
